React Native Flashcard App from Scratch Part 1-Idea

According to my #100DaysOfCode Progress I have been learning React Native for the past 37 days. I would hope that something would’ve stuck by now and I am about to test that. I am going to pause the learning from tutorials and courses and try to build something.

I had the hardest time trying to figure out what to build. There’s ton of ideas out in the internet and although they would be interesting, nothing really appealed to me until about 2:00 am last night. I was sleeping when my brain decided to have a brilliant idea. Really brain at 2:00 am. I had to be awake at 5:30 am to get ready to work but my body said nope. I started on some sketches for what I though my app would look like and tried to go back to sleep. I don’t think I slept very much to be honest with you, but that’s ok excitement and coffee helped me function through the morning.

Those are very rough sketches of what I would like to build. It’s very rough as I quickly jotted down ideas as they came to me.

I fly the Embraer 175, and there are so many things that have to be memorized. I have those items on Quizlet and it works great when I am connected to the internet. Well what if I’m not connected to the internet and I want to study? That’s where my app comes in. It will be a flashcard app that has all the memory items needed for the plane. I might also add on the functionality to have the user add more items or a different set of items but that will be later in the development of it.

There it is, what I’ve always wanted to do, combine my two passions together. This is my first personal react native project.

I’ve got a rough idea of the look and functionality, but next I need to really hone it down and do a proper sketch. I will do that after work.

Stayed tuned for more progress on my app. I will be blogging about it and posting it on Twitter as well.
